L'hitoire des Fouassiers
My name's Sébastien Fouassier, i'm going to tell you my story !!
My ancestors were all « Fouassier » which means they made fouasse, they were makers of fouasse, through generations.
I learnt from my father who learnt from his father.
What is a fouasse ?
The « Fouasse » comes from the latin word « focus » which means oven he put these sort of little breads (with very little yeast so they didn't need to wait they could be cooked immediatley).
The oven to test the temperature before making read bread ; so not to waste these little breads, they decided to make them into a meal by putting meat or vegetables inside which melted and cooked.
In the middle ages « François Rabelais » who wrote Gargantua talked about the « fouasse » which was favorite food !! and he was a « gourmet ».
In those days the fouasse sellers had an argument with the men who looked after the vinyards, this argument turned bad and the two kings from the nearby lands declared war, sixteen thousand men died for the fouasse.
I assure you you're not going to die but they're « to die for ! »
This is how to eat them :
-First, you open it, a small opening to keep the hot steam inside, then you take what you want from the side dishe's and you put them inside the fouasse.
